U11 Blitz Carlow RFC, 16/10/10
Smiles all round for opening games of the season
KRFC U11s travelled to Carlow last week nervously optimistic. New laws
had been introduced for the U11 grade this season with scrums, lineouts
and drop kicked restarts all to be negotiated for the first time in live
game.
To add an extra bit of pressure, a gang of new players, freshly
arrived to the game of rugby, were going to get their first taste of the
helter skelter world of a mini rugby game. The new additions to the KRFC
coaching side busied themselves by trying desperately hard to look like
they knew what they were supposed to be doing.
The weather helped the day no-end as a spectacular crisp autumn morning
greeted the participants and afforded players and spectators alike the
opportunity to enjoy the festival of rugby to the full.
Kilkenny U11s edged the 4 games on the day benefitting from some strong
running from their more experienced players and remarkably assured
displays from some of their debutants. There were great tries scored for
both sides in some thoroughly entertaining encounters played in a great
spirit. Kilkenny enjoyed the rub of the green in the scrums, both sets
of front rows eagerly contested each put-in with Kilkenny benefitting
from a number of strikes against the head. Out of touch however, neither
side seemed capable of securing their own lineout ball, something
definitely to work on.
All in all a good days work and all credit to Carlow who were great
hosts. Despite the good results there is still a lot to be worked on and
the coaching staff are looking forward to an improved display against
Rathdrum RFC in 3 weeks.
