ABOUT

The earliest mention of a rugby club in Kilkenny was in 1886, although rugby may have been played in the Marble City prior to this date. One of the reports of the time tells that in 1889 a team left Carlow, by the afternoon train, to play a match the following day, against 'Kilkenny County and City Football Club' at Dukes Meadows, by kind permission of the most noble Marquis of Ormonde. The 'Sentinel' report of the match tells us that Kilkenny won a 'very rough match' by one try to nil.Kilkenny played at St James' Park from the early 1900's until 1974 when they moved to their present ground at Foulkstown, opening their new clubhouse in 1976.

PRESIDENT´S ADDRESS

It is with great personal pride and privilege that I take on the role of President of Kilkenny

Rugby Football Club.

Our mission this year is to create a friendly, positive culture at the club, with teams competing

at all levels from Minis right up to Seniors.

With key appointments to our underage setup, we are committed to growing and developing

our Youths teams as the foundation for future success.

To our new head-coach, David O’Connor, I extend my best wishes and support for a very

successful season ahead.

I would like to thank all of our coaches, managers, committees and ground staff for all their commitment to the Club. I would also like to thank our sponsors for their continued support and welcome sponsorship from new companies, who are aligned with our ethos and goals, in helping us maintain this wonderful club.

And finally, as a club we are all committed to making Kilkenny RFC a friendly, competitive environment with the door always open to new members and anyone who wishes to be involved in playing, coaching or the many other roles in the club.

I look forward to seeing all of our supporters and friends back in the club in the season ahead, driving our teams onto a successful season.

Sincerely,

David Matthews

CLUB VALUES

Teamwork

Rugby brings together a group of individuals and moulds them into a single unit, where they learn to support and encourage one another in pursuit of a common goal. This team spirit cuts across cultural, geographic and religious differences and often leads to the creation of lifelong friendships.

Respect

Respect is of the utmost importance to rugby, as players are taught to show respect for their teammates, the opposition, their coaches, the match officials and themselves. They must work to earn and retain the respect of the rugby community by setting good examples both on and off the pitch.

Community Spirit

As a club one of our main aims is to bring together people from diverse backgrounds & with common interests, with the intention of creating a welcoming rugby community within the wider community.

Enjoyment

Rugby is a fast and exciting sport that generates great passion amongst its participants. It is also very sociable and provides an opportunity to make enriching friendships with people from diverse backgrounds and communities.

Progressive

As a club we aim to be progressive in all matters in order to allow us to constantly change and improve. We will strive to take members views into account in implementing continuous improvement within the club.
